Recently, Mitsui Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. announced that it will increase the production capacity of polyurethane dispersions (PUD) to meet the market demand for single material food packaging.
Specifically, Mitsui Chemical’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Mitsui Chemical MC Co., Ltd., will expand its PUD production facilities at its Shimizu factory, which is expected to double its domestic production capacity. Currently, the total production capacity of the Shimizu factory is 34000 tons per year. Mitsui Chemical stated that the expansion project is expected to start in February 2024, be completed in April 2025, and be put into operation in June 2025.
Mitsui Chemical stated that the TAKELAC brand PUD for this expansion is a water-based resin with excellent heat resistance, high-temperature gas barrier, and friction resistance. As environmentally friendly products, they are widely used in the fields of paints and coatings, adhesives, binders, resin modifiers, sizing agents, and textile processing. In recent years, with the continuous growth of sustainable development demand, people’s demand for recyclable single material food packaging has continued to grow, helping to increase the demand for PUD products. Mitsui Chemical hopes to respond to this demand by actively strengthening its supply network.
